A Celtic legend that tells the story of the adulterous love between the Cornish knight Tristan and the Irish princess Iseult. After defeating the Irish knight Morholt, Tristan travels to Ireland to bring back the fair Iseult so she can marry his uncle, King Mark of Cornwall. Along the way, they ingest a love potion which causes the pair to fall madly in love. Predating and most likely influencing the Arthurian romance of Lancelot and Guinevere, the details of the story differ from one author to another, but the overall plot structure remains much the same.
